This paper will analyse the role of nanotechnology in the diagnosis and treatment of neurodegenerative disorders, particularly Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease, and vascular diseases such as stroke. Firstly, this research will examine these pathologies, their current conventional treatment, and their epidemiology. Secondly, the role of the blood-brain barrier as the main biological impediment of current treatment use will be appraised. Furthermore, this paper will assess the methods to facilitate drug delivery into the brain, as well as the different types of nanomaterials, their properties, and their uses in this field. Finally, this paper will evaluate the validity of nanotechnology to treat these diseases.
