[EN]Unlike physical and sexual violence, less is known about emotional in intimate partner relationships. In relation to the latter, there is no consensus on the definition, the methods of measurement, and the behaviors that constitute emotional abuse. The goal of this study is to contribute to the understanding of intimate partner violence by considering emotional abuse within heterosexual intimate relationships. More specifically, this research analyzes the behaviors that women consider to be emotionally abusive, and the negative effects of that abuse. A qualitative study was conducted to examine women’s experience of emotional abuse within the context of heterosexual relationships from a feminist perspective. The information was gathered through five in-depth interviews and one questionnaire and findings indicate that being routinely subordinated by men has long-term and negative consequences for women’s emotional health
