EVOLUCIÓN TEMPORAL, GEOGRÁFICA Y SECTORIAL DE LA INVERSIÓN Y DESINVERSIÓN DIRECTA ESPAÑOLA EN EL EXTERIOR. EL SECTOR COMERCIO AL POR MENOR EN LATINOAMÉRICA

Abstract

En este trabajo se analizan los flujos de inversión y desinversión directa española en el exterior, mediante un estudio de su evolución temporal, sectorial y geográfica en el periodo 1993-2018, con base en algunas fuentes estadísticas como Datainvex. Además, se aborda en profundidad el estudio del sector comercio al por menor en América Latina y, por último, se examina el caso específico de Supermercados DIA en esta zona geográfica, así como el comportamiento de sus principales competidores. Tras este análisis, concluimos destacando el elevado aumento de la desinversión directa española en el exterior tras la crisis financiera española a partir de 2008. Igualmente, cabe resaltar el sector servicios y la región europea como principales protagonistas de la mayor inversión y desinversión directa española en el exterior. Aun así, ocurridos estos hechos, el Grupo DIA obtiene mayor rentabilidad en las inversiones directas en Latinoamérica que en el resto de áreas geográficas. The aim of this paper is to analyze the flows of Spanish direct investment and disinvestment abroad, through a study of their temporal, sectoral and geographical evolution in the period 1993-2018, based on some statistical sources such as Datainvex. Furthermore, we focus the study in retail trade sector in Latin America. Finally, we examine the specific case of DIA Supermarkets in this spatial zone, as well as the behavior of their main competitors. Once the analysis has been carried out, we conclude by highlighting the high increase in Spanish direct disinvestment abroad after the Spanish financial crisis from 2008. Likewise, it is worth noting that the service sector and the European region are the main players of the greatest Spanish direct investment and disinvestment abroad. Even so, after these events, the DIA Group obtains higher profitability in direct investments in Latin America than in other geographical areas.
