An overview of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: Learning, Teaching and Assessment.

Abstract

[EN]The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) has become a reference document for European countries and countries beyond its borders in order to describe the student’s command in foreign languages. The ELP is another widely used tool to help students become aware of the learning process. This essay is aimed at describing what the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages is, where it comes from and what its main aims are. In addition, the ELP will be defined. Research, which highlights the main limitations of the CEFR, will be also mentioned. In addition, the influence of both documents in Europe, Spain and Andalusia will be described. Case studies in countries far from Europe will be explained in order to know how the CEFR has been implemented in continents other than Europe.

[ES]El Marco Común Europeo de Referencia para las Lenguas se ha convertido en un referente para los países de la Comunidad Europea y países fuera de ella con el objetivo de describir el dominio de los estudiantes en lengua extranjera. El Portfolio Europeo de las lenguas es otra herramienta usada para concienciar a los estudiantes acerca del proceso de aprendizaje en el que están inmersos. Esta investigación tiene como objetivo definir en qué consiste el Marco Común de Lenguas, de dónde proviene y cuáles son sus principales objetivos. Se definirá el Portfolio Europeo y se nombrarán algunas debilidades del Marco Común Europeo. También se describirá la influencia de ambos documentos en Europa, España y Andalucía, y se mencionarán estudios llevados a cabo en otros continentes aparte de Europa en los que el Marco Europeo ha sido puesto en marcha.
