La mutilación genital femenina y los derechos humanos

Abstract

[ES] La mutilación genital femenina el procedimiento que engloba aquellos métodos destinados a lesionar o mutilar total o parcialmente los tejidos que conforman los órganos genitales femeninos y que sufren millones de mujeres y niñas año tras año sin razón médica que lo justifique. Es una práctica que lejos de aportar beneficio alguno, genera en las perjudicadas innumerables efectos negativos, físicos y psicológicos, llegando a costarles la vida. La MGF es reconocida internacionalmente como una violación de derechos humanos y en consecuencia es abordada con las medidas legislativas vigentes en materia de derechos humanos en todos los ámbitos existentes (internacional, europeo, nacional y autonómico) como con innumerables programas sociales y organizaciones dirigidas a la erradicación de esta práctica. Se han conseguido importantes avances al respecto, pero sin llegar a erradicarla y quedando un largo camino por recorrer.

[EN] Female genital mutilation is the procedure that encompasses those methods intended to injure or mutilate all or specifically the tissues that make up the female genital organs and that millions of women and girls year after year without medical reason to justify. It is a practice that, far from contributing any benefit, generates innumerable negative, physical and psychological effects in the damaged ones, costing them life. FGM is recognized internationally as a violation of human rights and is consequently addressed with the current legislative measures in the field of human rights in all affected obstacles (international, European, national and regional) as with countless social programs and organizations aimed at Eradication of this practice. There have been important advances in this regard, but without eradicating it and leaving a long way to go.
