JHUMPA LAHIRI'S THE NAMESAKE: A REFLECTION ON MULTICULTURALISM

Abstract

[ES] Las notables migraciones de comunidades indias hacia Estados Unidos, el país predilecto para encontrar refugio, sientan las bases de esta novela. A pesar de los impedimentos que conlleva su condición de emigrante, como las dificultades lingüísticas y culturales, los personajes que nos presenta la escritora Jhumpa Lahiri no cesan en su empeño por abrirse hueco en el panorama americano, desde donde Lahiri pretende continuar con su labor concienciadora contra la exclusión de los "Otros". El presente Trabajo Fin de Máster tiene como objetivo estudiar la obra de la escritora Jhumpa Lahiri, The Namesake (2003) para adentrarnos en este panorama.

[EN] The remarkable migrations of lndian communities to the United States, the preferred country to find a new heme, are the foundations of this novel. Despite the impediments associated with the emigrant condition, such as linguistic and cultural difficulties, the characters presented by the writer Jhumpa Lahiri do not cease in their efforts to get integrated in the American scene, from where Lahiri attempts to continue her work aiming to raise awareness against the exclusion of the "Other".The aim of this Master's Dissertation is to study the work of the author Jhumpa Lahiri, The Namesake (2003), to go depth into this panorama.
