English from a global perspective: New Zealand English

Abstract

Este proyecto propone un estudio sobre algunos aspectos del inglés como lengua internacional y sus variedades. En primer lugar se expondrán tres perspectivas a tener en cuenta en su expansión. Después se explicará una serie de modelos que catalogan las diferentes variedades que son resultado de esa expansión. A continuación se tratará el concepto “Inglés estándar”, ofreciendo una serie de definiciones de diversos autores, y además se presentarán las variedades nativas y no nativas a nivel global que se pueden encontrar. El último apartado se centra en una descripción de la variedad conocida como Inglés Neozelandés. En la primera parte se incluye una introducción con información relevante sobre este país y, a continuación, se incluirán algunas de sus peculiaridades en pronunciación, gramática y vocabulario.

This project is aimed at accounting for some aspects of English as a global language and its varieties. In the first place, three perspectives to be considered in its spread will be expounded. Then, a range of models will be explained, which categorize the different varieties resulting from this spread. Next, the focus will be on the concept Standard English, providing some definitions by several authors, and also this part includes the native and non-native varieties that can be found at a global level. Finally, the last section is aimed at describing the variety “New Zealand English”. The first part of it provides an introduction to relevant facts about this country and the second one contains some of its peculiarities in pronunciation, grammar and vocabulary.
