INTERCULTURALITY: TRENDING TOPIC IN SPANISH EDUCATION

Abstract

Este trabajo trata sobre la Interculturalidad en una clase de inglés en un instituto. Al principio haremos un contexto general de donde comenzar, cubrirá el término cultura y la evolución y diferencias entre multiculturalidad e interculturalidad. En segundo lugar, nos centraremos en definir términos importantes como son identidad cultural, estereotipos, prejuicios y racismo. Después, nos acercaremos a nuestro objetivo trabajando con la interculturalidad y su necesaria influencia en la educación actual, en este apartado definiremos todos sus aspectos. Para llevar la interculturalidad a cabo en una clase, la preparación previa del profesorado es necesaria. Finalmente, todas estas ideas serán llevadas a una clase con la intención de enseñar a través de la interculturalidad en una clase de inglés como lengua extranjera, especialmente a través del aprendizaje cooperativo.

This work deals with Interculturality in a language lesson in our high schools. Firstly, some concepts such as culture, from multiculturality to interculturality, will be developed in order to understand the whole context. Secondly, focus will be on external concepts which are also influencing on Interculturality, those are cultural identity, stereotypes and prejudices and racism. Then we will go closer to our main aim working on Interculturality and its influence on Education where we will define what is, what is happening, why is happening and the nowadays educational context. To develop interculturality in a classroom, it is necessary a previous teacher’s intercultural formation hence we will cover this facet. Finally, these ideas will be taken to a classroom where English is taught as a Foreign Language (EFL), cooperative learning will be the tool to develop these aspects with the pupils.
