Mythology in Hamlet

Abstract

One of the most important masterpieces of literature is Hamlet, written by the famous author William Shakespeare. In this work can be found a variety of conflicts and feelings of the characters, such as revenge, love and death, topics which will be discussed in this project. However, one of the great aspects of this work is that it is full of mythological allusions, both Greek and Roman. This end of degree dissertation will be mainly focused on the investigation of these allusions, and therefore a brief explanation about Greek and Roman mythology will be given. Finally, we will see how this play is related to the myth of Orestes as they share a great variety of similitudes.Una de las obras maestras más importantes de la literatura es Hamlet, escrita por el famoso autor William Shakespeare. En esta obra se puede encontrar una gran variedad de conflictos y de sentimientos por parte de los personajes, como la venganza, el amor y la muerte, temas que serán analizados en este proyecto. Sin embargo, uno de los grandes secretos de esta obra es que está repleta de alusiones mitológicas, tanto griegas como romanas. Este trabajo estará enfocado principalmente en la investigación de estas alusiones, y por ello se dará una breve información sobre la mitología griega y la romana. Finalmente, veremos como como esta obra tiene muchas similitudes con el mito de Orestes. Palabras
