The aim of this paper is to look into the now outdated role of poetry in foreign language classrooms, to identify the benefits of its incorporation to the curriculum, to study the difficulties that might be encountered, and to propose a teaching unit to work with poetry in the English as a foreign language classroom. Throughout this project we are going to examine various approaches to language teaching in order to find the methodology that best fits the needs of the group of students for whom the activities included in the teaching proposal have been designed.
