Reading strategies used by begginers in L2

Abstract

[ES]Este trabajo busca analizar qué tipo de estrategias utilizan los estudiantes en su comprensión lectora. La población elegida consiste en un grupo de treinta y ocho estudiantes que asisten a su noveno grado en la escuela secundaria. La metodología de investigación utilizada para este proyecto es cuantitativa, para este fin, se diseñó un cuestionario. Además, las respuestas de los estudiantes fueron analizadas en porcentajes; las tablas y gráficos se agrupan en las principales estrategias de lectura para comprender el análisis de la encuesta de una mejor manera. Los resultados mostraron que la mayoría de los estudiantes utilizan la estrategia de lectura llamada "guessing words from context" es decir, que tratan de encontrar algunas soluciones cuando tienen que enfrentarse con palabras desconocida y superar estos obstáculos con el fin de comprender el texto y no detener la lectura.

[EN]This paper looks for analyzing what type of reading strategies the learners use in their reading comprehension. The population chosen consists of a group of thirty eight students attending their ninth grade at secondary school. The research methodology used for this project is quantitative, for this purpose, a questionnaire was specifically designed. Additionally, the students' answer were analyzed by percentages; the charts and graphs were grouped into the main reading strategies to understand the analysis of the survey in a better way. The results showed that the majority of students use the "guessing words from context" strategy that is; they always try to find some solutions when they have to face with unknown words and overcome these obstacles in order to comprehend the text and do not stop the reading.
