(ES) La melancólica reflexión en torno a lo perecedero de los bienes materiales, o la fugacidad
de la vida de las personas han constituido una preocupación recurrente en las distintas culturas
a través de los tiempos. Paradigmas metafísicos que alcanzaron una gran difusión a través de
la iconografía de la vanitas, un complejo imaginario definido ya en la Antigüedad Clásica y que
ha experimentado ligeras variaciones con el paso de los siglos. Estos tópicos se han visto
materializados en el arte mediante un extenso catálogo de símbolos, a los que nosotros
pretendemos aproximarnos en el presente trabajo tratando de ponerlos en estrecho diálogo con
el género del retrato.
(EN) The melancholic reflection on the perishability of material goods or the transience of people's lives has been a recurrent concern un different cultures throughout the ages. Metaphysical paradigms that reached a great diffusion through the iconography of the vanity, an imaginary complex defined already in the Classical Antiquity, and that has experienced slight changes over the pass of the centuries. These topics have been materialized in art through an extensive catalog of symbols, in which we intend to approach in this work trying to put them in close dialogue with the genre of the portraiture.
