WORKINGS ON MOTIVATION AND ITS IMPORTANCE IN THE LEARNING PROCESS

Abstract

[ES]What is a teacher? “It is not who teaches something but who inspires the learner to give his/her best in order to find out the knowledge s/he has inside his soul” (Paulo Coelho). Motivating students has recently become an obsession and one of the main premises on the field of teaching, but why are students so demotivated nowadays? One of the essential pillars on which this dissertation is based is the scarcity of students’ learning motivation. In addition, the low academic performance existing mainly in EFL, currently constitutes a relevant challenge that requires to be addressed in order to contribute, as teachers, to the training of demotivated students to learn and motivated teachers to teach. The time has come for us to learn to listen and analyse those children that demand a change in education, because we have their happiness in our hands.

[EN]¿Qué es un profesor? “No es aquel que enseña algo, sino aquel que inspira al alumno a dar lo mejor de sí para descubrir un conocimiento que ya tiene dentro de su alma” (Paulo Coelho). Actualmente, motivar a los alumnos se ha convertido en una obsesión y una de las premisas para la docencia, pero ¿por qué están tan desmotivados los alumnos de hoy en día? Uno de los motivos esenciales sobre los que se basa este trabajo se debe a la escasa motivación para aprender de los alumnos, y el bajo rendimiento académico existente en España, lo que constituye un problema de gran relevancia que necesita ser abordado a fin de contribuir como docentes, en la formación de alumnos motivados para aprender y de profesores motivados para enseñar. Aprendamos a escuchar y observar a nuestros niños y niñas que reclaman un cambio en la educación. En nuestras manos está su felicidad.
