Afrofuturism is an aesthetic, cultural and thought current that highlights a new black identity through speculative fiction and science fiction. The purpose of this work is to make an approach to this heterogeneous movement both in its artistic manifestations and in its geographical origin, to find out its history and its main characteristics. The hypothesis of this study is that Afrofuturism has gained in popularity from the first decades of the 21st century to the present, and that promotes a new aesthetic and vision of the African and Afro-descendant capable of countering the traditional narratives that apply to Sub-Saharan Africa and its diasporas.
