[EN] Hospital-acquired infections (HAI), also known as healthcare associated infections (HAI), are an unintended consequence of the healthcare a patient receives from the staff and affect millions of patients annually all over the world. They cause a considerable problem in the public healthcare due to their high morbidity and mortality rates that produce adverse effects and put in danger the patient's security. Their treatment entails great costs for the healthcare system because the days of hospitalization increase, the extra tests required, the long-term disability and the consumption of antibiotics. In the developed countries, patients that are hospitalized due to some kind of HAI are between 5% and 10%. One of the elements that facilitates these infections to spread, it is the state of the patient's conditions and his illness process, the low hygiene measures, the biosecurity and the limited control of the hospital infections.
