[EN] In the last year, the incidence anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries has increased, mainly in female athletes. The aim of this review is to identify, evaluate and join the main risk factors that cause an ACL. Pubmedd, PEDro and Science Direct databases were searched with the keywords "Anterior cruciate ligament", "Kneelaxity", "Female athlete", "Puberty", "Menstrual cycle" and "Hormones". The studies published from 1990 to date were selected. After analyzing the selected studiaes, it is possible to conclude that the increase of the probability of suffering an ACL in female athletes is due to diverse risk factors, such as gender, laxity and hormonal influence. For this reason, it would be interesting to continue studying the subject.
