[EN] Chitosan is a new haemostatic agent developed in military medicine to prevent bleeding on the battlefield, the most common reason for death. It is obtained from the chitin of the exoskeleton of crustaceans and on contact with the blood forms a pseudo clot thanks to the electrostatic reaction that occurs, it is positively charged while the blood is negatively. This mechanism of action is an advantage in itself as it doesn’t alter the coagulation cascade and can be used in anticoagulated patients. Its usefulness resides in all types of haemorrhages both in the hospital and prehospital and its mode of use is so simple that it can be used by non-healthcare personnel. The objective is to determine the efficacy of chitosan with this narrative review.
