ATENCIÓN DE ENFERMERÍAANTE EL ICTUS EN URGENCIAS HOSPITALARIAS

Abstract

[ES] El ictus es una enfermedad que afecta a miles de personas y que, además, es la causa de numerosas defunciones al año. El profesional de enfermería toma un papel significativo ante esta enfermedad, ya que es el primer profesional que atiende a los/las pacientes en la sala de triage de urgencias. El/la enfermero/a que se encuentre en la sala de clasificación debe asignar una prioridad adecuada a las necesidades que presente el/la paciente a su llegada. Para ello, es importante que estos profesionales conozcan los signos y síntomas del ictus, y así poder activar el “código ictus” cuando sea necesario. Existen escalas disponibles para su uso en urgencias que ayudan a detectar el ictus y conocer el estado en el que se encuentra el paciente. El tiempo es clave en este tipo de pacientes porque cuanto más tiempo se tarde en actuar, mayor será las complicaciones y/o secuelas que tendrá la persona. Por esta razón, es primordial que el personal de enfermería se encuentre formado, para realizar una buena actuación y unos cuidados adecuados. El registro de documentación es significativo para la comunicación entre los distintos profesionales sanitarios, para evitar cometer errores y para conocer el estado del paciente en cada momento. Actualmente, existen sistemas de “alertas” implantados en los servicios informáticos de algunas comunidades que son beneficiosos para evitar olvidos y para hacer que la atención al/a la paciente sea más adecuada y apropiada a sus circunstancias.

[EN] Stroke is a disease that affects thousands of people and is also the cause of numerous deaths per year. The nurse has a significant role to play in this disease, as he/she is the first professional to attend to patients in the emergency triage room. The nurse in the triage room must assign an appropriate priority to the needs of the patient on arrival. To this end, it is important that these professionals are aware of the signs and symptoms of stroke, so that they can activate the "stroke code" when necessary. There are scales available for use in the emergency department to help detect stroke and know the patient's condition. Time is of the essence in this type of patient because the longer it takes to act, the more complications and/or sequelae the person will have. For this reason, it is essential that the nursing staff is trained to perform a good performance and adequate care. The recording of documentation is important for communication between the different healthcare professionals, to avoid making mistakes and to know the patient's condition at all times. Currently, there are "alert" systems implemented in the computer services of some communities that are beneficial for avoiding forgetfulness and for making patient care more adequate and appropriate to the patient's circumstances.
