[EN] Background: Fibromyalgia syndrome is a chronic disease that generates widespread pain throughout the body and a multitude of symptoms in patients suffering from this entity. The wide range of techniques that offers physical therapy to relieve symptoms has been studied in this review. Objective: to evaluate the effectiveness of manual therapy and electrotherapy treatment in people with fibromyalgia syndrome. Methods: We searched in "PubMed" and "PEDro" bibliographic databases. Inclusion criteria: randomized clinical trials published in the last 5 years with high methodological quality. Results: We have found significant improvements in pain, functional status and symptoms of fibromyalgia in all short-term therapies, decreasing gradually over time. An exception is the upper cervical manipulation therapy, which is obtained significant improvements long term. Conclusion: The results described in the studies included in this review suggest that manual therapy and electrotherapy may be effective in relieving fibromyalgia symptoms in the short term while cervical manipulation technique may be beneficial in long term fibromyalgia management.
