Ingeniería de Telecomunicación[EN] This research addresses the fog computing paradigm in ways that cloud computing has been addressed before, by simulating fog computing scenarios/applications using a simulator(in this case, ifogsim) and then optimising the energy consumption of the system. This research attempts to do this optimization by focusing on how resources are being used, assigned and allocated in the fog computing architecture, a process called scheduling. There are two possible ways of scheduling. First is tasks/tuple scheduling and second, vm scheduling. This project focuses on the latter. We used the Pittsburgh learning method, a genetic fuzzy rule based approach to generate optimised rule bases for our fuzzy rule base vm allocation algorithm. We ultimately compare our heuristic with already existing exact algorithms such as minmin, maxmin, suffrage, roundrobin and random algorithms.
