Tanto las mujeres como aquellos/as menores afectados por esta situación sufren daños personales importantes para su desarrollo, de ahí la importancia de llevar a cabo una normativa especial para protegerlos/as, hoy en día, se ha conseguido que los/as menores que sufren esta violencia sean reconocidos como víctimas, logrando con ello un gran paso en la materia.
