This work tries to show a ritual practice that is still performed in many cultures around the world, Female Genital Mutilation. It's a rite that violates the fundamental Human Rights of millions of girls and women in the world, and for which it´s imminent eradication is necessary. With this bibliographic review I intend to give visibility to this sexist practice, through a detailed explanation of it´s development, distribution, motivations, consequences and persecution. In the same way, I relate FGM with bioethics, also showing different points of view that debate between the defense of the practice because it is considered custom or from the bioethical point of view, which advocates it´s justified abolition with the violation of Human Rights. The existence of different global, national and even regional laws that penalize and pursue this practice is a sign of the retrogade and atrocius of it.
