Chronic oral consumption of ketamine has antidepressant effects in animal models and in humans. The objective of this Project was to analyze the effect of this administration in consummatory successive negative contrast (cSNC). To this aim, one of two groups had access to ketamine. After that, both groups received a 32% sucrose solution, and later, a 4% solution, a devaluation thatproduces frustration and decreases the consumption. As a result, subjects treated with ketamine increased their preference for the drug and showed a tendency to consume more sucrose. These preliminary results suggest that chronic oral administration of ketamine tends to attenuate the effect of cSNC and that the frustrating experience increases the consumption of ketamine. Having to be confirmed in future studies, the usefulness of the cSNC as an animal model to study the effects of ketamine, and if it is susceptible of being used to alleviate emotions os loss.
