More than 15.000 years ago we began to live with animals and they took on a new role as companions. The use of animals as therapeutic means in activities in an organized and documented way is relatively new. Animal-assisted facilitated therapy and many of the therapeutic uses are extensions of health benefits. The areas in which this type of intervention has shown a greater performance, have been: neurorehabilitation, psychology/psychiatry, social integration, education and gerontology. In addition to these areas, you can find others in which the intervention is growing more slowly: in prisons, women victims gender violence, people with functional diversity, problems of loneliness... This present work consists of a bibliographical review that will have as purpose the analysis of animal- assisted therapy and the profile of the social worker in it. To do so, we will study the profile of the social worker in assisted-intervention with animals as well as the types of therapy that exist to carry it out.
