[EN] Acute myocardial infarction is a highly frequent cardiac disease throughout the world. Current treatments in sorne patients turn out to be inefficient with mortal consequences. New disciplines such as cellular therapy and cardiac regeneration have emerged in the last few years. At the same time, heart regenerative potential has been widely investigated in animals such as amphibians, teleost fishes and mice. The regenerative capacity in those animal models ocurre due to cardiomyocyte proliferation. Cardiac regeneration has not been studied yet in a chicken embryonic model. This regenerative capacity is not produced in humans yet it could probably be a new way to treat the acute myocardial infarction. In this study, a cell proliferation analysis has been carried out in chicken embryos previously injured through immunohistochemistry techniques. The results have reflected a higher proliferation of the cardiomyocytes in injured embryos, not getting the same in uninjured embryos. So the conclusion is that chicken embryonic heart shows up a great cardiac reparation capacity during its embryonic development.
