Recently, research on autism spectrum disorder (ASD) has been progressing favourably. Since Leo Kanner (1943) and Hans Asperger presented their first contributions on this disorder, autism was immersed in a debate until it finally managed to be introduced, towards the 80s, in the diagnostic manuals. Until a few decades ago, this disorder was widely unknown and much less was known about how to develop an educational process in children. Currently, there are numerous investigations on the causes, behavior and different traits found in each of the children suffering from this disorder, but it is not always easy to specify the results obtained and the reliability of the various studies carried out. This paper will talk more in depth about this disorder, its definition, the types that are within the general disorder, the symptoms that can facilitate the detection of autism. It will also take into account and talk about the importance of families when working with a child with ASD and will deepen in the pedagogical practices among many other points.
