The present study tries to verify how the ITI affects the EMACs effect (Extinction Converts to Acquisition in Specific of the Context) in a task of appetitive conditioning in rats. Two ITIs were used, one of 240 sg. and the other of 480 sg. The rats were assigned to one of two groups according to ITI. During the first phase in a context (A) the animals of the two groups received training in which a stimulus (white noise) was always followed by a consequence (X +). In a second phase, half of the rats in each group received an extinction treatment with X (X-). Also, in the two groups a new stimulus (white light) was presented, which was always followed by the consequence (Y +). During these two phases all the animals had experience in another context (B) in which the consequence never appeared and in which a different stimulus (tone, Z-) was presented. Finally, during the test phase, animals from both groups were exposed to the Y stimulus, both in context A and in context B. The results showed that the EMACs effect remained elusive independently of the programmed ITI.
