[EN]This paper aims to carry out a bibliographic study about how institutionalization impacts on seniors biologically, psychologically and socially. It begins with Theories of Ageing or the ways in which we can understand the last stage of our lives, followed by a historical evolution of the birth of nursing homes. But the most important aspect in this work is the change which person suffers since he has to move from his own home to a residential home. This is a hard situation. Therefore, the first moments are very important for them; such as the pre-entry, entry and three months later ‘the adaptation’. Once the resident has adapted to his new lifestyle, the multidisciplinary team will meet to fulfil his individualised activities plan, aims will be established to work with the user trying to search autonomy and quality of life in all biological, psychological and social aspects, each professional in his area.
