Evolución biológica y principales eventos geológicos durante el Cretácico

Abstract

[ES] Se describen los aspectos generales sobre evolución biológica y diversidad faunística y florística del Cretácico, integrando al grupo más representativo de este periodo, como son los dinosaurios. Además, se definen los aspectos y eventos geológicos más representativos del Cretácico, entre los cuales caben destacar por ejemplo la gran la provincia ígnea del Decán, el cráter Chicxulub o los diferentes eventos anóxicos oceánicos. A parte de estos elementos principales, se detallan algunos aspectos importantes que permiten hacernos una idea de cómo era el planeta durante este periodo, como pueden ser la paleogeografía, el paleoclima o los cambios en el nivel del mar. Por último, cabe destacar los aspectos generales de la historia, subdivisones y bioestratigrafía del Cretácico, sentando así unas bases que permiten situar este periodo a lo largo de la escala de tiempo geológico.

[EN] The general aspects of biological evolution and faunal and floral diversity of the Cretaceous are described, integrating the most representative group of this period, such as the dinosaurs. In addition, the most important aspects and geological events of the Cretaceous are defined, which include the great igneous province of the Deccan, the Chicxulub crater or the different oceanic anoxic events. Apart from these main elements, some important aspects are detailed that allow us to get an idea of what the planet was like during this period, such as paleogeography, paleoclimate or changes in sea level. Finally, it is worth highlighting the general aspects of the history, subdivisions and biostratigraphy of the Cretaceous, thus laying the foundations that allow this period to be placed along the geological time scale.
