LEARNING STYLES AMONG GENERATIONS X, Y, AND Z IN THE SECOND LANGUAGE CLASSROOM

Resumen
[ES] NoEl propósito de este estudio es de comparar las similitudes y diferencias de los estilos de aprendizaje en materia del aprendizaje y adquisición de la segunda lengua entre Generaciones X, Y y Z. La población de muestra consistió en 128 estudiantes del investigador (antiguos y actuales), quienes se encuentran en Colombia. Los estilos de aprendizaje fueron determinados usando el cuestionario VARK creado por Neil Fleming, el cual se basa en aprendizajes: Visual, Auditivo, Lectura-Escritura, y Kinestésico. El cuestionario VARK fue suministrado en enero del 2021. El análisis de los estilos de aprendizaje indicó
que las tres generaciones tienen una preferencia por el estilo Kinestésico, y solo para el caso de la
generación Z, el estilo Auditivo también representó una alta preferencia. El trabajo concluyó que el
estudio de los estilos de aprendizaje en estudiantes del segundo idioma es un factor importante para el
desarrollo de lecciones mas fructíferas.
[EN] The purpose of this study is to compare the similarities and differences in the learning styles in the matter of Second Language Acquisition and Learning among three age cohorts: Generation X, Y, and Z. The sample population consisted of 128 former and current students of the researcher who were located in Colombia. The learning styles were determined by using the Visual, Auditory, Read-write, and Kinesthetic (VARK) questionnaire by Neil Fleming. The VARK questionnaire was administered in January 2021. The analyses of the learning styles indicated that the three generations have a preference for the Kinesthetic style, and only for generation Z the Auditory style was also found to be an important factor for their development. It was concluded that the study of the learning styles in the second language classroom is an important factor for the development of more fruitful lessons.
