El valor formativo de la música y su presencia en el currículum educativo se halla en la cultura griega. Durante los últimos años se ha acrecentado el interés por conocer en qué medida el aprender a tocar un instrumento o ser expuesto a un entrenamiento musical incide sobre el desarrollo cognitivo infantil. Una de las líneas de investigación con resultados más prometedores ha sido la encargada de examinar la posible relación existente entre formación musical, inteligencia y funciones ejecutivas de niños y niñas. La participación en actividades musicales puede ayudar a los niños a optimizar su potencial al mejorar sus habilidades en una variedad de áreas esenciales de aprendizaje (razonamiento y resolución de problemas, matemáticas y lenguaje, pensamiento literal y memoria, administración del tiempo y elocuencia, habilidades sociales y de trabajo en equipo) eso sin mencionar el impacto que la música puede tener para transformar la vida de un niño.
The formative value of music and its presence in the educational curriculum is found in Greek culture. In recent years, interest has grown in knowing to what extent learning to play an instrument or being exposed to musical training affects children's cognitive development. One of the lines of research with the most promising results has been in charge of examining the possible relationship between musical training, intelligence and executive functions of boys and girls. Participation in musical activities can help children optimize their potential by improving their skills in a variety of essential areas of learning (reasoning and problem solving, math and language, literal thinking and memory, time management and eloquence, social skills and teamwork) not to mention the impact that music can have in transforming a child's life.
