La figura femenina en la novela galdosiana: La de Bringas, Tormento y La desheredada

Abstract

El siglo XIX español es un periodo de complicaciones y cambios tanto a nivel político como social. En el terrero de la literatura, la primera mitad de siglo el romanticismo se encargará de reivindicar toda esta serie de cambios a través de una literatura que exprese la personalidad del artista, en ese afán por clarificar que el artista va a ser el instrumento del Creador cuando genera belleza. Por el contrario, el realismo de la segunda mitad de siglo pretende plasmar fidedignamente la realidad. Galdós se propone descubrir las consecuencias de todos los cambios producidos. Este estudio se centrará concretamente en examinar el papel de la figura femenina en tres de sus novelas de la serie contemporánea y del llamado ciclo materialista: La de Bringas, Tormento y La desheredada. Mediante estas novelas conoceremos la visión e inquietudes del autor por la necesaria reforma de valores.

The Spanish nineteenth century is a period of complications and changes at both political and social level. In the field of literature, the first half of the century, romanticism will be in charge of reclaiming all this series of changes through a literature that expresses the personality of the artist, in an effort to clarify that the artist will be the instrument of the Creator when it generates beauty. On the contrary, the realism of the second half of the century aims to faithfully capture reality. Galdós intends to discover the consequences of all the changes produced. This study will focus specifically on examining the role of the female figure in three of his novels in the contemporary series and the so-called materialistic cycle: La de Bringas, Tormento and La desheredada. Through these novels we will know the vision and concerns of the author for the necessary reform of values.
