La historia en la literatura de Benito Pérez Galdós: El Sexenio Revolucionario (1868-1874)

Abstract

Este trabajo da cuenta del tratamiento que Benito Pérez Galdós ofrece sobre un período concreto de la historia de España, el Sexenio Revolucionario (1868-1874), a través de su obra. Para alcanzar este propósito tomaré como objeto de estudio tanto la novela Fortunata y Jacinta (1886-1887), como algunos Episodios Nacionales (1872-1912) inspirados en los acontecimientos y personajes que protagonizaron aquellos años. Se tratará, por tanto, de un trabajo a caballo entre la historia de España y nuestra literatura.

This paper aims to study how a specific period in the history of Spain, the Revolutionary Six-Year Period (1868-1874), known in Spanish as Sexenio Revolucionario, is treated and reflected in the work of Benito Pérez Galdós. To achieve this purpose, we will analyse and study the novel Fortunata y Jacinta (1886-1887) as well as some Episodios Nacionales (1872-1912) inspired by the events which took place and the characters who lived during those years. Therefore, this paper will be straddling the line between the history of Spain and our literature.
