THE ROLE OF CULTURE IN FOREIGN LANGUAGE TEACHING

Abstract

[ES] Durante mucho tiempo se ha asumido que la lengua y la cultura están fuertemente vinculada entre sí y un aspecto importante del aprendizaje de una lengua extranjera es aprender su cultura. Además de aprender la gramática y vocabulario de la lengua meta y cómo comunicarse en diferentes situaciones y para distintos fines, los estudiantes de una lengua extranjera deben lograr un entendimiento intercultural al mismo tiempo que preservan su propia cultura e identidad. La premisa principal del presente documento es que la comunicación eficaz no es solo una cuestión de enseñar contenidos lingüísticos, sino también una cuestión de exponer a los estudiantes a una segunda cultura y civilización. Por lo tanto, el presente proyecto se centrará en la enseñanza de la cultura en el aula de lengua extranjera y tratara de mostrar que la cultura ocupa un lugar importante en la enseñanza de la lengua extranjera.

[EN] It has long been assumed that language and cultura are strongly linked to each other and an important aspect of learning a foreign language is learning its culture. Apart from learning grammar and vocabulary of the target language and how to communicate in different situations and for different purposes, learners of a foreign language should achieve an intercultural understanding while preserving their own culture and identity. The main premise of the paper is that effective communication is not only a matter of teaching linguistic contents, but also a matter of facing students to a second living culture and civilization. Therefore, the present project will focus on the teaching of culture in the foreign language classroom and will attempt to show that culture holds an important place in foreign language education.
