[EN]This project analyses some of the components of the communicative competence and establishes a connection between the phonological competence and the field of teaching English as a Foreign Language in the region of Andalusia, Spain. In order to do so, different references to establish a theoretical background have been used. A brief analysis of the following varieties of English concerning pronunciation has also been included: Received Pronunciation (RP), General American (GA) and English as an International Language (EIL). Some sounds of the target language (English) in these varieties (RP and GA) have been analysed, in order to establish a comparison with the corresponding sounds in the Spanish variety used in Andalusia, where we can safely say that they exist as such. Finally, a didactic proposal is included for two main reasons: it serves as a possible solution towards the most difficult sounds students may encounter and also to implement new ways of teaching English pronunciation.
